From Red to Rich Brown — The Color Correction Process Explained
Red is the hardest color to remove — and the easiest to muddy. Here's the multi-step process our correction team uses to land a clean, rich brown.
Red pigment sits deeper in the hair shaft than any other color family, which is why red-to-brown transitions almost always take more than one session.
Step 1 — Filler
Because red hair has been stripped of underlying blue and violet tones, a warm filler is applied first to give the new brown pigment something balanced to sit on.
Step 2 — Base deposit
A rich, cool-leaning brown is deposited over the filled base. This usually looks slightly too cool in the chair — that's intentional, because red pigment underneath will warm it up over the next 2–3 weeks.
Step 3 — Gloss refresh (2–4 weeks later)
Once the pigment settles, we bring you back in for a gloss to true up the tone and add shine.
